Telehealth is one of the few industries that experienced an unprecedented boost in recent months and thankfully so. Telehealth has been crucial to physicians around the world. It has cemented itself as one of the most reliable and effective tools against the COVID-19 pandemic.
Telehealth and telemedicine has helped save lives during the pandemic. It has allowed patients and physicians to connect safely. Virtual technology has helped optimize the OR & ER facilities of several health systems. There is also the great benefit that Telemedicine has helped offset some of the revenue losses caused by the pandemic. Given all these great benefits, it is of no surprise that currently it is projected to be valued at $3.55 billion in 2027.
The impact of telemedicine has been so profound that it did not just affect healthcare companies, it also affected healthcare-support companies like medical billing & revenue cycle management service companies. In fact, according to a recent survey done by BillingParadise, it was found that for a majority of the companies, telemedicine acted as a lifeline to bring back the once lost patient volume. Telemedicine also promotes patient-centric care, by providing the opportunity for continuous patient engagement.
As a testament to the rapid progress telehealth has made in the past few months, Humana has joined the growing list of large companies seriously investing in telehealth solutions. On Jun 29th, Humana announced a $100 million investment in and new partnership with telehealth home care startup Heal. This strategic partnership between one of the largest payors in the country and a telehealth startup that was listed 13th in 2020 CNBC Disruptor 50, was made in an effort to ensure that Humana members can receive primary care from the comforts of their home through house calls and one-touch telemedicine.
