Why are so many of the physicians un-happy??

The results of a recent survey by QuantiaMD, conducted across 45 states, with 699 doctors responding, has yielded results that might send the shivers down the spine of some of our national healthcare legislators.  That is because 8 out of 10 physicians responded that they are thinking about getting out of healthcare altogether, and that medicine as a whole might be on the wrong track.  Although only 4% of the physicians contacted took the time to complete the survey, the data gleaned does provide some serious food for thought for our healthcare planners.

Why are so many of the physicians unhappy??  Why are nearly 75% of them contemplating on not accepting Medicare??  How come 2 of 3 say they are just scrapping by or in the red financially?   What really is the reason for all this apathy??  The federal solutions to the ailing healthcare system in the form of Affordable Care Act, the Pay-For-Performance criteria, and Electronic Health Records, are themselves being targeted by the doctors as the culprits for the state of affairs.  Although there might be something valid in the practitioners being critical about the individual mandate reforms and the performance-based payouts; the critique of EMRs appears inexplicable, and just might be a case of them lashing out at everything doled out by the federal powers.

So what really is at fault here??  Who really is to be blamed?  Is it the rather stringent Medicare payouts or the inefficacy of the in-house staff, who may not be well-versed with the latest reimbursement criteria, while at the same time taking unduly long to go up the EMR learning curve?  The answer might be a mix of both.   Medicare payouts have to become lenient; as there is no point in patients affording healthcare when there are no doctors left to treat them.   In an environment where the physicians are already undersupplied, many practices going out of business or the doctors shifting careers might prove disastrous to the goal of affordable quality healthcare; which really is the point of all the machinations of the government.

As for decreasing reimbursements from the payers; medical billing, claims submission, along with EMR support should be best left to the dedicated vendors especially in place for this purpose.
