WSJ report on how CIOs have to adjust
The growing coronavirus pandemic has made organizations across the country adjust to a ‘new normal’ situation, which entails a majority of employees to work remotely. The role of CIOs, according to The Wall Street Journal report, will be crucial to smoothen the transition.
Workers will be looking to IT leaders for help in leveraging the tech tools that will provide them a semblance of a collaborative work environment, which was available to them in the office.
Colleen Berube, CIO at Zendesk, speaking to WSJ, explained that CIOs can be most successful during this time by leveraging the opportunity to instill new working practices for remote work, noting that this would help them find a stronger way of working globally.
The company recently deployed a video-conferencing enabled virtual onboarding process for new hires and several new self-service tools that needed IT support, with MS. Berube overseeing the operations.
Similarly, startup company GitLab’s CEO, Sid Sijbrandji maintained that all his employees were encouraged to work remotely since its inception. Speaking to WSJ, he pointed out that this was a giant opportunity for CIOs to make companies more efficient. Noting that the company needed to get to a point where people are equally effective while working from home, by providing more freedom to the team members, more opportunities can be created, he added.
