IT spending projections decline, as remote work policies advance, constraining CIOs to alter tech priorities

Extended work-from-home policies and tech spending cuts are under review by CIOs, according to The Wall Street Journal, which observed that the IT executives must reevaluate workforce IT tools to best accommodate the new work experience.

The Gartner research report in its recent publication.reported that global IT spending is likely to fall to $3.4 trillion in 2020, a drop by 8% from last year.

Extending its global remote work policy through Sept. 1, the San Francisco based software company Dropbox offered an option to its 2,800 employees to work from home through the end of the year if they prefer. Sylvie Velleux, CIO of Dropbox, speaking to The Journal said that the company when it reopens its offices will need to consider new tools, such as those that can support conference rooms with fewer people,

Over 1,000 software tools and apps used by Dropbox employees are managed by Ms. Veilleux as a CIO of the company. In order to improve the employees  remote work experience, the company is stepping up its work-from-home bandwidth, she explained it is important to understand how employees are using the tools, further elaborating she told The Journal that the goal was to help workers streamline apps, so that they can navigate easily through dozens of difficult-to-use applications.

In order to assess how well IT systems and apps work for remote employees, CIOs are focussing on network monitoring. They are also crafting lists to determine the communication methods that employees prefer for meetings, such as text or video.
