After a decade of patients having to choose between treating their feet ailments or basic survival needs, the residents of California can now breathe easy. Med-Cal (essentially Medicaid for California) podiatric coverage is back to ensure that all Californians can now have affordable health care. Med- Cal rolling back its benefit coverage for Podiatrics in the past decade to combat the rising risk of Great Depression have left it’s constituents in the low income households at a dire loss. Though on side rolling back these essential benefits did save the state an overwhelming $97 million in 2014, however there was an unprecedented rise in lower feet amputation from 2010 to 2016.
