How To Bring Up OR Revenue During COVID-19

OR volume has dropped by 60 percent due to the COVID-19 pandemic. With elective surgeries being put on hold inorder to somehow curb the spread of infections and increase the resources to combat the pandemic, it had devastating consequences on hospitals, health systems revenue.

Many hospitals are solely dependent on the revenu brought on by the OR department. OR drives 65 percent of a hospital’s revenue and now with surgeries being put on hold, that revenue has not been made up for.

Right no hospitals need to focus on creating a recovery plan that is bound to be successful as the margin for error seems to be shrinking with each passing day, here are some ways

Work with OR leaders to develop a capacity expansion plan
Talk to surgeons to understand their needs and capabilities
Enlist anesthesia to lead plan execution
Dialogue with nursing to gain commitment
Communicate with patients to win back business
To secure the maximum funding possible, you must involve OR leaders in the application process.

Additional PPE and training for OR team members Increased sterile processing costs
Increased environmental services costs Since surgery generates up to two-thirds of hospital revenue and costs
OR leaders will play a key role in developing a strong PHSSEF application. This funding will not undo the financial damage of the pandemic, but it can help hospitals recoup a portion of lost income.
