If you’re thinking Allscripts, Practice Fusion or GE Centricity, you are wrong. Even Cerner does not hit the bull’s-eye, it comes fourth. And NextGen and e-MDs are way off target. Does McKesson ring a bell? No, it is in no way related to one of the top 3 consulting firms, McKinsey; but mind you is a corporate behemoth in itself, a Fortune 500 company which provides wholesale supplies of pharmaceuticals and health information technology related services.

Mckesson’s EMR product is all that you can expect in a new-age EMR; it is cloud-based, CCHIT certified, is intuitive and easy to use, and what more comes with a novel dashboard, which measures your progress along the road to meaningful use. The dashboard measures your practice on 15 meaningful use criteria, and further clicking of any one of the criteria gives you greater details about the same, including instant access to CMS meaningful use guidelines.

Next in the countdown is Cerner, and it has often found itself being compared to a comparable product, the Epic. Remember that Epic could easily have replaced Cerner at #3 (it itself is at #7), were it not for Cerner’s better functionality in a hospital setting and its decade of head start in the EMR arms race. An interesting comparison between Cerner and Epic has been that Cerner is likened to a Ferrari, with its prancing, agile, and competitive functionalities, whereas Epic has been compared to a Lamborghini, more “engine-centric” and potency focused, which in turn shows up in the one of the most integrated EMR environments.

Allscripts’ position at number #4 is somewhat contentious. Although AMA has partnered with it, one might say it is mainly because of its e-prescribing feature, and the rest of the EMR is clunky to use. But call what you may, the free tech support and free upgrades, and yes that remote app for iphone has made it a force to reckon with in the EMR market.

If you want to continue the countdown on EMR technology, you can follow us at our blog https://www.billingparadise.com/blog/

This might be an easy one. Which really is the country’s topmost EMR product? 3 millions users and every technical accolades conceivable bagged, it has to be eCW or eClinicalWorks, yeah you’re right. But the next in the line EMR may not be that easy to guess.
