insurance<\/li>\n<li>Making payments for their healthcare needs<\/li>\n<li>Payer communications<\/li>\n<li>Email their health care providers and pertinent professionals.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\"><b>The Horse of a Different Color<\/b><\/span><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In a recent report of California Healthcare Foundation about \u201cHealth Information Technology in California\u201d, it was underscored that in contrary to the noteworthy development in the tools utility, the state hangs back the Country due to the hindrance encountered by the physicians, clinics, hospitals and other healthcare centers in many technical areas especially:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>E-prescribing with EHR access, 57 percent of them utilized the system to:<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ol style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li>Peruse lab\/ imaging tests and reports<span style=\"color: #808080;\"> <strong>(32 percent)<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<li>Schedule appointment <span style=\"color: #808080;\"><strong>(38 percent)<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<li>Email their healthcare provider <span style=\"color: #808080;\"><strong>(36 percent)<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<li>Request a prescription renewal <span style=\"color: #808080;\"><strong>(28 percent)<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<li>Take a glance at the medical records <span style=\"color: #808080;\"><strong>(25 percent)<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\"><b>Non-EHR Users:<\/b><\/span> Among the group of non-EHR users, it was observed that they are interested in interacting with <a title=\"EHR Collection Worries\" style=\"color: #808080;\"><strong>(54 percent)<\/strong><\/span>, phone call <span style=\"color: #808080;\"><strong>(51 percent)<\/strong><\/span>, text <span style=\"color: #808080;\"><strong>(35 percent)<\/strong><\/span> and postal mail <span style=\"color: #808080;\"><strong>(19 percent)<\/strong><\/span>.<\/li>\n<li>Secured online communication <span style=\"color: #808080;\"><strong>(50 percent)<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\"><b>Usage by CHC:<\/b><\/span> There was a colossal change in the community health centers\u2019 (CHC) EHR usage from 3 percent in 2005 to about <strong>65 percent in 2011<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\"><b>Usage by Doctors:<\/b><\/span> There was a hefty change in the usage level of EHRs by the doctors from <strong>37 percent in 2008 to above 60 percent in 2013.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\"><b>The Ranking:<\/b><\/span> On a national scale, California has been holding 49<sup>th<\/sup> rank on e-prescribing espousal and utilization.<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\"><b>Health Info:<\/b> <\/span>The EHR consumers of California use diverse internet sources to access the health information:<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ol style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li>Medical website (WebMD, Medscape) \u2013 <span style=\"color: #808080;\">40 percent<\/span><\/li>\n<li>Search engine (Google, Yahoo or Bing) \u2013 <span style=\"color: #808080;\">33 percent<\/span><\/li>\n<li>Health plan websites \u2013 <span style=\"color: #808080;\">20 percent<\/span><\/li>\n<li>Hospital website \u2013 <span style=\"color: #808080;\">17 percent<\/span><\/li>\n<li>YouTube \u2013 <span style=\"color: #808080;\">11 percent<\/span><\/li>\n<li>Facebook \u2013 <span style=\"color: #808080;\">9 percent<\/span><\/li>\n<li>Physician website \u2013 <span style=\"color: #808080;\">7 percent<\/span><\/li>\n<li>Pharmaceutical Company website \u2013 <span style=\"color: #808080;\">7 percent<\/span><\/li>\n<li>Twitter \u2013 <span style=\"color: #808080;\">3 percent<\/span>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\"><b>Incentive Program:<\/b><\/span> About 37 percent of California physicians surveyed in 2011 planned to partake in the Medi-Cal or <a title=\"Medicare EHR Incentive Programs\" href=\"https:\/\/www.billingparadise.com\/blog\/infographics-no-need-to-implement-ehr-just-pay-penalties-and-ravage-your-practice-business\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Medicare EHR incentive programs<\/a>. Whereas 39 percent of the doctors don\u2019t have the plan to participate and 25 percent are ineligible.<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\"><b>Practice Size:<\/b><\/span> Based on 2012 report:<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Solo practitioners in California demonstrated the lowest rate (41 percent) of EHR access.<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li>2-9 MDs group \u2013 <strong><span style=\"color: #333333;\">57 percent<\/span><\/strong><\/li>\n<li>10 \u2013 49 MDs \u2013 <strong>75 percent<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>50 plus MDs \u2013 <strong>86 percent<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\"><b>Practice Location:<\/b><\/span> Physicians in urban areas of California used EHRs much <strong>(73 percent)<\/strong> when compared with those in rural areas <strong>(58 percent)<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\"><b>Physician Type: <\/b><\/span>Primary Care Physicians (PCPs) more predominantly used EHRs <strong>(62 percent)<\/strong> than the specialists (58 percent).<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\"><b>Implementation Status:<\/b><\/span> About half <strong>(49 percent)<\/strong> of California hospitals had an EHR system in 2012 whilst <strong>32 percent<\/strong> had partially electronic system and about 19 percent had the paper-based system.<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\"><b>Meaningful Use:<\/b><\/span> About <strong>83 percent<\/strong> of the hospitals meet the core objectives of the meaningful EHR usage.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\"><b>The Final Caveat<\/b><\/span><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">This report throws light on the fact that Californians are lagging behind the Country and they must exploit the HIT advantage by adopting the EHR technology.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Take heed !
