COVID-19 has without a doubt redefined what is normal. None of the conventional workflows that were considered to be gospel seem to be of use now. Every aspect of a business needed to get revamped to deal with the new and unprecedented challenges of the pandemic. COVID-19 has put an almost unbearable amount of strain on the healthcare system. During the course of the pandemic, if one needs to ensure that RCM can still be the solution maker that it was meant to be then we need more innovative and out-of-the-box thinkers like:\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Mike Marulli, Senior director of revenue cycle @Hurley Medical Center\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Acacia Holmes, senior director of patient financial services @Munson Medical Center<\/span><\/p>\n

These two have stepped up to the challenges of the pandemic and have ensured that their businesses make it through the pandemic. The first thing one experiences during a crisis is a loss of security and in this crisis this loss came in the form of surging numbers of unemployment and bad debts.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThe focus was looking at bad debt,” Mr. Marulli said. \u2026 “As we got into COVID-19, we realized that wasn’t good enough. \u2026We weren’t only dealing with COVID patients, while much of our focus was on COVID patients, … we also had people in the community that were out of work, unemployed or furloughed.”<\/span><\/p>\n

And by recognising the problem, they managed to find a work around that can help the patients and ensure that their business makes it through the pandemic.<\/span><\/p>\n

Both Ms. Holmes & Mr. Marulli have made extremely plausible predictions on how healthcare will change during and post pandemic.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>
