As per a recent research conducted by the Seattle Children’s Hospital, East Carolina University and the American Academy of Pediatrics, pediatricians health IT adoption rates are very less.
The survey cites that pediatricians are 1-2 years behind other specialties, when it comes to EHR adoption.
The major reasons for pediatricians being reluctant to adopt an ehr is that they’re not sure of the benefits that it can bring to their practice, and the costs involved.
Let us see the statistics of Pediatrician EHR use
- Self reported pediatricians use EHR at 41%
- Only 19% of the system met the definition of basic EHR.
- Fully functional EHR is at 6%
- Only 3% uses a system that was fully functional and pediatric supportive.
Pediatricians can overcome the financial barriers, and can also use pediatric specific ehrs.
But the question is how they can do it?
The major solutions are
* Pediatricians need to select an appropriate EHR/EMR.
* They need to have trained staff to handle their ehr.
Otherwise,
* They need to outsource their billing.
* Some billing companies pay for the EHR/EMR and also help in-house staff to handle the EHR.
* If this is done, physicians can see more patients and an increase in collections.
