Why is a VP of Revenue cycle required for health systems?

Health systems may choose to hire a Vice President of Revenue Cycle Management (VP of RCM) to oversee and improve the financial performance of the organization. This individual would be responsible for ensuring that the system’s billing and collection processes are efficient and effective, as well as identifying areas for cost savings and revenue enhancement.

The VP of RCM would likely have a background in healthcare finance and a deep understanding of the healthcare revenue cycle. They would work closely with other leaders within the organization to develop and implement strategies to improve financial performance.

How we solved the VP of RCM headhunt?

We identified that the health systems that often replace their VP of RCM are because of the constant pressure of monitoring the entire revenue cycle. This created tremendous pressure for these VPs of RCM who eventually give up on the job.

The key reasons are:

  1. Lack of experience.
  2. Understaffed for supportive roles like RCM managers, supervisors, etc.
  3. Not having a streamlined RCM.
  4. Unpredictable work hours.
  5. No outsourcing partners.

Recently, we were approached by a large health system in need of a new Revenue Cycle Vice President. This individual would be responsible for overseeing the entire revenue cycle of the health system, including patient billing, insurance reimbursement, and collections.

The health system was in a challenging position. They had been experiencing a high turnover rate in their revenue cycle leadership and were struggling to find a qualified candidate who could step in and effectively manage the department. This was causing significant financial losses for the organization and impacting patient satisfaction.

Lack of experience

Since we have our offices in various states a health system based out of Georgia has asked us to refer an eligible VP candidate. This position was unfilled for several months and then they reached out to us requesting whether we can help them hire a VP of RCM.

However, our response was objective, we were requested to analyze their organizational structure to provide the best solution possible. Upon verifying their organizational structure we identified there were lots of gaps in the revenue cycle hierarchy that paved the way for the VP to leave the health system.

 RCM managers

To help the health system find the right candidate, we first conducted a thorough analysis of their current revenue cycle operations and identified areas of improvement. We then used this information to develop a detailed job description and list of qualifications for the Revenue Cycle Vice President position.

Next, we reached out to our extensive network of healthcare professionals and began a targeted recruitment campaign. We screened and interviewed multiple candidates and presented the health system with a shortlist of the most qualified and experienced individuals.

Not having a streamlined RCM

The health system ultimately decided to hire a candidate from our shortlist, who had a strong background in revenue cycle management and a proven track record of successfully leading and improving revenue cycle operations.

Since the new Revenue Cycle Vice President was hired, the health system has seen a significant improvement in its revenue cycle operations. They have been able to increase collections, reduce denials and improve patient satisfaction. The new Vice President was able to bring new ideas and strategies to the table, which had been missing before.

Unpredictable work hours

Once we referred them to a suitable VP of RCM, They also wanted us to streamline their RCM processes as they had way too many gaps and lacked the proper RCM staff to smoothly transition the revenue cycle operation. Overall, our revenue cycle recruitment and consulting were able to help the health system find the right candidate and improve its revenue cycle operations. We were able to provide the health system with a talented and experienced individual who could effectively lead the department and bring positive change to the organization.

No outsourcing partners

It is important to note that our approach doesn’t just stop at recruitment, we also offer to consult services to help our clients in their revenue cycle operations. By identifying areas of improvement and providing guidance, we are able to help our clients achieve their desired results and improve their financial performance.

In conclusion, finding the right Revenue Cycle Vice President can be a difficult task, but with the right approach and the help of experienced professionals, it is possible to find a candidate who can effectively lead the department and bring positive change to the organization. We were able to help this health system do just that, and their improved revenue cycle operations are a testament to our success.
